Equal Pay for women ... unpaid post...

Women are still earning 18% less than men.

This is not just because they're traditionally doing less skilled or part time work, we're talking about women doing the same job..

Women graduatesare earning 15% less than men within five years of starting work.

Perhaps the new, unpaid, Minister for Women can work on this.

Comments:
It has to come from legislation, right? If it was possible for women to refuse to work for unequal pay, that would have happened. It doesn't happen, because people are reluctant to put their job on the line in that way. Also, employees are still ver secretive about how much they earn.

What about a statutory obligation that all employers submit an annual report of their current emlpoyees' names, gender, job description, level of experience and salary.

Obviously, employers could lie, but you could make that risky for them by sampling the employees as well.

Perhaps the admin cost of this is high, but most of the burden is on the employer putting the details together rather than the DTI checking it. Also, the burden on a small employer will be far less, which is kinda neat...

Oh I don't know - what do you think?
